Goals

  • To promote education and research in clinical science;
  • To improve the development, selection, accuracy, utilization, and interpretation of laboratory tests used for clinical diagnosis, prognosis, monitoring, and research;
  • To encourage cooperation among physicians and members of other professions concerned with applications of scientific methods in clinical practice and research; and
  • To foster the professional development, scientific stature, ethical standards, and collegiality of clinical scientists.

The Association has a long and distinguished history of over 70 years providing a forum for clinical scientists from many disciplines to interact and share research and related topics. The Association of Clinical Scientists publishes a highly regarded, PubMed indexed journal, Annals of Clinical and Laboratory Science, that is currently in its 50th year of publication. Highly referenced manuscripts are published in 6 issues of the journal per year with a wide variety of research interests regarding clinical, translational, and basic science fields in laboratory medicine and anatomic pathology. ACS also publishes the Clinical Science Trumpet newsletter on the ACS website three times per year to inform the membership of upcoming events and items of importance.

Typically, an in-person Annual Meeting is held yearly in May at various sites. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the meeting that was scheduled for May of 2021 in Louisville was cancelled. We invite you to join us for a half-day Virtual Workshop/Meeting on Problems and Challenges with COVID19 Laboratory Testing to be held on November 13. The program will feature four expert speakers and the opportunity to earn CME credits. More details will be available shortly. We hope to be able to hold an in-person meeting in May of 2022 (perhaps hybrid with on-line).

The Association prides itself on the level of collegiality, sharing of research and ideas, and personal interaction that is not found in most societies. The Association hosts many committees from Athletics, Music and Arts, and Young Fellows Section Oversight just to name a few, as well as the Scientific Sections and Publications. We cordially invite your participation in these committees. If you are not already a member, please consider joining to take advantage of all the benefits the Association has to offer.
