The Association for Molecular Pathology (AMP) was founded in 1995 to provide structure and leadership to the emerging field of molecular diagnostics. AMP’s 2,500+ members practice various disciplines of molecular diagnostics, including bioinformatics, infectious diseases, inherited conditions, and oncology. Our members are pathologists, clinical laboratory directors, basic and translational scientists, technologists, and trainees that practice in a variety of settings, including academic and community medical centers, government, and industry. Through the efforts of its Board of Directors, Committees, Working Groups, and Members, AMP is the primary resource for expertise, education, and collaboration in one of the fastest growing fields in healthcare. AMP members influence policy and regulation on the national and international levels, ultimately serving to advance innovation in the field and protect patient access to high quality, appropriate testing. For more information, visit www.amp.org and follow AMP on Twitter: @AMPath.
The AMP Annual Meeting is the premier educational event for molecular medicine professionals from around the world offering more than 100 presentations, 400 posters, and 200 exhibiting companies. Membership benefits include reduced registration rates to the AMP Annual Meeting and other educational programs, free online subscription to The Journal of Molecular Diagnostics (JMD), direct access to colleagues and mentors via the members-only listserv, and a voice in the direction of molecular medicine through AMP’s volunteer and advocacy initiatives.
Through its various committees, AMP works to advances the clinical practice, science, and excellence of molecular and genomic laboratory medicine through education, innovation, and advocacy to enable highest quality health care.
Student, Postdoctoral Fellow, and Resident Opportunities
Associate Membership is open to students, postdoctoral fellows, and residents for free. Associate members are eligible for junior membership on AMP committees and other career-advancing opportunities.
The AMP Young Investigator Award recognizes student, postdoctoral fellow, or resident trainees who present outstanding basic or applied research in poster format at the AMP Annual Meeting. The mission of the award is to encourage junior investigators to ask important original questions, to design sound, controlled experiments with a clear rationale, and to present the results comprehensibly in a poster format. Trainees eligible for this award must be either Associate or Regular members of AMP. Three winners are selected annually to receive this prestigious award with stipend. AMP offers several Trainee Travel Award opportunities each year to facilitate trainee attendance at the AMP Annual Meeting.

Education Opportunities
The Association realizes its commitment to the advancement of molecular medicine through its various education and training activities. AMP supports the development of new technologies in molecular biology to be used in laboratory medicine, including the diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis of genetic disorders, cancer, infectious diseases, transfusion medicine, identity and histocompatibility, and the utilization and applications of clinical informatics. AMP members participate in basic and translational research directed at broadening the understanding of gene/protein structure and function, disease processes, and molecular diagnostics. AMP’s mission to continually inform and educate its members of innovations in, and applications of, nucleic acid-based diagnostics is advanced through many venues, including its annual society meeting, peer-reviewed journal (The Journal of Molecular Diagnostics, co-owned with the American Society for Investigative Pathology), website (www.amp.org), members-only interactive online community (CHAMP), inter-society collaborations, and AMP’s catalog of courses, webinars, and interactive education (https://educate.amp.org). Additionally, AMP sponsors a Companion Meeting in conjunction with the USCAP Annual Meeting, collaborates with other pathology and clinical organizations, provides a Molecular Genetic Pathology review course for trainees in Molecular Genetic Pathology and Clinical Molecular Genetics fellowship programs, and offers an annual Outreach Course for emerging molecular laboratory professionals and pathologists in the local community of the annual meeting.
