This one-year, ACGME accredited program is designed to provide extensive training in all aspects of hematopathology, including bone marrow pathology, lymph node pathology, spleen pathology, blood smear pathology, body fluid pathology, immunohistochemistry, flow cytometry, automated hematology, hemoglobinopathies, coagulation, cytogenetics, and molecular pathology.
Approximately 4,200 bone marrow biopsies, 600 lymph node biopsies, and 6,800 flow cytometry specimens are evaluated each year in our hospital-based laboratory.
The fellow is required to participate in interdepartmental multidisciplinary tumor conferences, teach pathology residents and medical students, and conduct a research project. Presentation of research findings at a national conference is encouraged. The University of Kansas Health System has a National Cancer Institute-designated cancer center serving a complex patient population.
