Pathology Journals

Academic Pathology is an open access journal sponsored by the Association of Pathology Chairs, established to give voice to the innovations in leadership and management of academic departments of Pathology. These innovations may have impact across the breadth of pathology and laboratory medicine practice. Academic Pathology addresses methods for improving patient care (clinical informatics, genomic testing and data management, lab automation, electronic health record integration, and annotate biorepositories); best practices in inter-professional clinical partnerships; innovative pedagogical approaches to medical education and educational program evaluation in pathology; models for training academic pathologists and advancing academic career development; administrative and organizational models supporting the discipline; and leadership development in academic medical centers, health systems, and other relevant venues.

The American Journal of Clinical Pathology (AJCP) is the official journal of the American Society for Clinical Pathology and the Academy of Clinical Laboratory Physicians and Scientists. It is a leading international journal for publication of articles concerning novel anatomic pathology and laboratory medicine observations on human disease. AJCP emphasizes articles that focus on the application of evolving technologies for the diagnosis and characterization of diseases and conditions, as well as those that have a direct link toward improving patient care.

The American Journal of Pathology, official journal of the American Society for Investigative Pathology, published by Elsevier, Inc., seeks high-quality original research reports, reviews, and commentaries related to the molecular and cellular basis of disease. The editors will consider basic, translational, and clinical investigations that directly address mechanisms of pathogenesis or provide a foundation for future mechanistic inquiries. Examples of such foundational investigations include data mining, identification of biomarkers, molecular pathology, and discovery research. High priority is given to studies of human disease and relevant experimental models using molecular, cellular, and organismal approaches.

Archives of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine (APLM). This monthly, peer-reviewed journal of the College of American Pathologists offers global reach and highest measured readership among pathology journals.

Published since 1926, ARCHIVES was voted in 2009 the only pathology journal among the top 100 most influential journals of the past 100 years by the BioMedical and Life Sciences Division of the Special Libraries Association. Online access to the full-text and PDF files of APLM articles is free.

Every month, CAP TODAY brings essential news to all key decision-makers responsible for clinical laboratory purchases. This news includes advances in tests and equipment, trends in management and clinical operation, regulatory changes, and finance, plus news about the laboratory improvement programs of the College of American Pathologists.

What Do Pathologists Do?

The Journal of Molecular Diagnostics, the official publication of the Association for Molecular Pathology (AMP), co-owned by the American Society for Investigative Pathology (ASIP), seeks to publish high quality original papers on scientific advances in the translation and validation of molecular discoveries in medicine into the clinical diagnostic setting, and the description and application of technological advances in the field of molecular diagnostic medicine. The editors welcome for review articles that contain: novel discoveries or clinicopathologic correlations including studies in oncology, infectious diseases, inherited diseases, predisposition to disease, clinical informatics, or the description of polymorphisms linked to disease states or normal variations; the application of diagnostic methodologies in clinical trials; or the development of new or improved molecular methods which may be applied to diagnosis or monitoring of disease or disease predisposition.

Laboratory Investigation is devoted to the publication of current research that significantly advances the understanding of human and experimental disease. Papers devoted to basic biology are published with a perspective of relevance to experimental or clinical aspects of disease. Technical methodologies are featured when they have potential to further knowledge of disease. Publication is monthly

Modern Pathology features diagnostic anatomic pathology and, as such, has a utilitarian orientation. It contains original scientific papers, selected short courses, appropriate special lectures, reviews, editorials, letters to the editor, and Academy News. In many ways, it reflects the didactic composition of the Academy’s annual meeting. Publication is monthly.

Veterinary Pathology is the premier international publication of basic and applied research involving domestic, laboratory, wildlife, marine and zoo animals, and poultry. Bridging the divide between natural and experimental diseases, the journal details the diagnostic investigations of natural and emerging diseases of animals; reports experimental studies enhancing understanding of the mechanisms of specific processes including cancer, infection, immunologic, metabolic and genetically mediated diseases; provides unique insights into animal models of human disease; and presents studies in identification and characterization of environmental (food, plant and chemical) and pharmaceutical hazards.

Written for veterinary pathologists, veterinary diagnostic laboratory staff, toxicologic pathologists, comparative pathologists, medical pathology researchers, environmental scientists, and others involved in veterinary diagnosis and animal research across all animal species, each issue features original articles, in-depth reviews, brief communications and unique case reports. Veterinary Pathology is at the forefront of important issues including emerging disease trends, biothreat, genetic modification of animals, food, chemical and drug safety, environmental monitoring, and diagnostic technologies.
